Gorgeous, antique door hinges made by "Sargent & Co." of  New Haven, Connecticut during the late 1800's. Each hinge is made of  solid, heavy, thick, cast iron, and has 5 knuckles and ball finials on  both ends.  Also included with each pair are 16 installation  screws.
Originally, all parts were copper plated and finished with  black lacquer (Japanned). Some of the plating and finish wore off over the years  leaving the parts with a nice, distressed finish.
The degree of plating and finish varies from hinge to hinge, see   the 2 group photos to compare.
Each hinge is beautifully embellished with an Aesthetic (Eastlake) style  pattern. Some of the pattern is also on the back of the hinges, near the  knuckles, and will be visible as long as the doors your installing are not  thicker than 1 3/4"
The hinges were removed from a group of doors we salvaged from an old  Victorian home near Ithaca, NY. At the point of salvage, some parts were  painted and all were dirty (see last photo).
Since then, we removed the paint, and cleaned them to the best of  our ability while trying to preserve as much of the plating and finish as  possible.
The paint on one pair was too stubborn to remove (see 2nd to last  photo). It will require either harsh chemicals, which we don't use, or a
thin metal  hand-tool to scrape off the remaining paint and some patience. One of the ball  finials of this pair has a small break in it's base, which could see in the same  photo. If you buy 3 pairs, we'll sell this 4th pair for half price.
Otherwise, all parts are free of breaks, cracks, chips, dents,  and deep scratches.
We greased the insides of the  knuckles before sliding the pins  back in. Now, the hinges open and close  easily and most of the pins slide out  with minimal effort.
